November through April
The season. Galleries keep full hours, juried shows open, festivals fill the parks, artists run workshops, and the audience is at its largest. If you are visiting to see art, come between January and March and you will not run out of things to see.
The peak weeks
Late January through early March is the densest stretch, with outdoor festivals most weekends across the five counties and major juried exhibitions opening. It is also the busiest time on the roads and the hardest time to park.
Shoulder months
November, December and April are quieter but still active, with many shows hanging and easier logistics. December brings holiday markets and small work sales, which is when local artists move a lot of inventory in the two hundred dollar range.
Summer, May through October
Many galleries cut hours or close for stretches. Class programs slim down, and outdoor festivals stop entirely. What continues: municipal studio programs, some member shows, camera club competitions and workshops aimed at residents rather than visitors. For an artist, summer is when you make work and meet entry deadlines for the coming season.
Planning around weather
Hurricane season runs June through November and has repeatedly reshaped this coast, closing venues for months at a time. Confirm that a specific gallery is open before you plan a trip around it, particularly on the barrier islands.
Art walks and recurring events
Monthly evening art walks in the downtown districts run through season and often pause in summer. They are free, social and the easiest single entry point into the local scene.
